āSee what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.ā
1 John 3:1
There is a difference between knowing that God loves you and living like you belong to Him.
We may understand the words in our minds, yet still live as though we are on the outside. We compare ourselves to other people. We question whether we are doing enough. We wonder if God is disappointed in us.
John asks us to stop and look again.
See what great love the Father has given us.
God does not only offer kindness from a distance. He welcomes us into His family. He calls us His children.
That name gives us a new identity.
A child does not have to earn a place at the family table each morning. Their place comes from belonging. In the same way, our place with God is not rebuilt every day through perfect choices.
It is given through Jesus.
Being Godās child does not mean we will never struggle. It means we do not struggle alone. We have a Father who leads us, corrects us, comforts us, and stays close.
His love is not small or careful. John says it is lavished on us. It is given freely and fully.
The world may try to name you by your work, your appearance, your relationship status, your past, or the opinion of other people.
God gives you a stronger name.
His child.
When you remember who you are, you do not need to chase every form of approval. You can live from a place of belonging instead of fear.
You are not trying to convince God to welcome you.
Through Jesus, you already belong.
Prayer: Father, thank You for calling me Your child. Help me live with the peace and confidence that come from belonging to You. Amen.
