LOVED BEFORE YOU DID A THING: Romans 5:8

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

It is easy to believe love must be earned.

We learn to look for proof that we are doing well enough by trying to be helpful, kind, successful, or easy to love. Sometimes even in our faith, we start acting as though God will love us more when we pray more, behave better, or finally get everything right.

Romans 5:8 tells a very different story.

God did not wait for us to improve before He loved us. He did not wait for us to understand Him, choose Him, or clean up every part of our lives.

Jesus came for us while we were still sinners.

This means God’s love began before our effort. It was not a reward for good behaviour. It was His choice.

The cross is the clearest proof of that love. Jesus gave His life knowing every weakness, every mistake, and every part of us that still needed grace. He saw it all, and He loved us fully.

That truth can be hard to receive because human love often feels conditional. People may pull away when we disappoint them. Approval can change when our choices change.

God’s love is not like that.

He does not love a future, improved version of you. He loves you now. His love is not waiting at the end of your progress. It is what carries you through it.

You will still grow. You will still learn. God will continue to shape your life. But you do not have to earn His love along the way.

You are already loved.

Prayer: God, thank You for loving me before I could ever earn it. Help me live from Your love instead of trying to prove that I deserve it. Amen.
