We all want to be nice.
To keep the peace, smile, and make others feel comfortable.
But being kind is different.
Kindness runs deeper — it’s not just about being polite; it’s about showing love that comes from God.
Niceness looks good on the outside.
Kindness comes from the heart.
1. Niceness Seeks Approval. Kindness Seeks God's Heart.
Being nice often means trying to please everyone.
We don’t want to upset anyone or make waves.
But kindness isn’t about keeping everyone happy — it’s about doing what’s right, even when it’s hard.
Galatians 1:10 says,
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Niceness says, “I want you to like me.”
Kindness says, “I want you to see Jesus in me.”
2. Niceness Stays Comfortable. Kindness Steps In.
Niceness can stay surface-level — a smile, a compliment, a quick “I’ll pray for you.”
But kindness moves toward people.
Kindness stops to help.
It listens.
It acts.
Ephesians 4:32 says,
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Kindness might take more time, more effort, or more heart — but it’s always worth it.
3. Niceness Comes From Us. Kindness Comes From God.
You can be nice on your own.
But to be truly kind — you need Jesus.
Galatians 5:22 says,
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”
Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit.
It flows from a heart connected to God.
It’s not about fake smiles — it’s about real love.
A Word for the Woman Who Feels Drained
If you’ve been trying to please everyone and it’s wearing you out, maybe God is calling you to something deeper.
You don’t have to be nice to everyone all the time — but you can always be kind.
Kindness doesn’t come from trying harder.
It comes from staying close to Jesus.
