āI am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.ā John 15:5
Winter has a way of slowing everything down.
The days are shorter. Energy feels lower. The excitement of a new year has settled into routine. It can feel like youāre simply trying to keep up.
When life becomes busy, our first instinct is often to do more. We make longer lists. We push ourselves harder. We tell ourselves that if we just try a little more, everything will fall into place.
Jesus offers a different picture.
He speaks about a vine and its branches.
A branch does not force itself to produce fruit. It stays connected to the vine. Everything it needs flows from that connection.
That is what Jesus invites us into.
Remaining in Him is not about doing more. It is about staying close.
It looks like making time to pray, even if it is only for a few minutes. It looks like opening your Bible before reaching for your phone. It looks like remembering that your strength comes from God, not from your own effort.
Fruit grows naturally when the branch stays connected.
The same is true in our faith.
This week, instead of asking yourself how you can do more, ask yourself how you can stay close to Jesus.
Everything else begins there.
Prayer: Jesus, help me remain close to You this week. Remind me that lasting strength comes from staying connected to You. Amen.
