Weāre about to enter that season where the word āthankfulā is everywhere ā on mugs, sweatshirts, and Pinterest boards. But lately, Iāve been asking myself: whatās the real difference between thankfulness and gratitude?
Because for women like us ā wives, mothers, workers, and believers juggling everyday chaos ā that difference can be life-changing.
1. Thankfulness is a Moment. Gratitude is a Posture.Ā
Thankfulness is often a reaction to something good.
We say āthank youā when life feels kind ā when the kids are getting along, when the bills are paid, when the coffeeās still hot.
But gratitude runs deeper. Gratitude says āGod is goodā even when the day doesnāt go to plan.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 weāre reminded:
āGive thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godās will for you in Christ Jesus.ā
Thankfulness notices whatās right in front of us. Gratitude anchors our hearts to what canāt be shaken. Itās the quiet assurance that even in the chaos, God is still working.
2. Gratitude Grows Strong Faith in the Hard Seasons
As mums, wives, and women of faith, we walk through seasons that stretch us ā the sleepless nights, the self-doubt, the prayers that seem unanswered.
In those moments, thankfulness might fade. But gratitude digs deeper roots.
Colossians 2:6ā7 says,
āSo then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him⦠overflowing with thankfulness.ā
Gratitude is the overflow of a heart that trusts God even when the outcome isnāt clear. It transforms survival into strength, and routine into worship.
When we wear that kind of gratitude ā in our hearts and on our sleeves ā it changes how we show up for our families, our work, and our faith.
3. Gratitude is a Lifestyle - Not a Season
Thankfulness can happen once a year. Gratitude happens every day.
Itās in the quiet āthank Youā whispered over laundry piles.
Itās in the deep breath before the next school run.
Itās in remembering that Godās presence fills even the ordinary.
Psalm 100:4 says,
āEnter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.ā
Gratitude doesnāt just show up in November ā it lives in every moment we choose to see Godās goodness in the middle of it all.
A Word for the Christian Woman Balancing It All
If your life feels messy, youāre not failing ā youāre human. Gratitude isnāt about pretending everythingās perfect; itās about noticing Godās fingerprints even in the imperfect.
And maybe thatās what Heās teaching us this season ā that gratitude isnāt something we wait to feel, itās something we choose to wear daily.
Just like your favorite cozy hoodie or tee, itās something that becomes part of you.
š A Little Encouragement:
Wear your gratitude today ā not just in your heart, but in your home, in your words, and yes, even in what you wear.
